I’m a big fan of my Ahnu Montara boots. Just when I thought the company couldn’t release anything better than those, they came out with the Sugarpine line consisting of a waterproof boot, waterproof shoe, and air-mesh trail runners.
I’ve been spending the last couple of weeks testing the Sugarpine Waterproof Boot, and let me tell ya, they are awesome and versatile. These are the best lightweight, waterproof boots for a not-so-steep price.
First and foremost, the colors that these come in are super fun! Mine make me very excited to look at my feet, and to attempt to pair with other ridiculously bright clothing. I actually like the colors more than the ones for the Montara boots.
Secondly, these don’t look completely like hiking boots, making it easy to transition from work to wilderness. They are fully waterproof and good for rainy commutes to work without sacrificing style for functionality.
The Sugarpine boots are also fairly lightweight at 1lb and 7.4 oz, approximately 7 oz. lighter than the Montara. The boots’ synthetic textile is fully waterproof and fairly breathable. No sweaty or wet feet here.
These are a great shoe for day hiking and short backpacking trips. The sole has nylon and fiberglass arch shanks and EVA shock plates, however, they still contain tons of flex and are incredibly comfortable to wear. The boots encase your feet, making you feel like you are walking on mushrooms or marshmallows. No break in period was needed for these boots; that’s how comfortable these are. Like the Montaras, if you are considering backpacking trips over 3 days, you will probably want a stiffer boot.
All in all, for the price and function, the Ahnu Sugarpine Waterproof Boots are a great deal. Comfortable and versatile, you might find yourself reaching for these every single day, trails or not.
