Holiday gift picks for the weekend warrior

As a San Francisco resident who pays too much for a tiny piece of space to store things, all of the things I own need to play nice inside and outside. These are my picks that transition seamlessly from work to play for the weekend warrior.

Outdoor Research Umbra Hoody

This shirt probably gets the most rotation in my closet. From Half Dome to bar hopping, the Umbra Hoody looks just as good on the streets as it does at the crag.

Buy through Amazon or Outdoor Research.

Approach shoes

Sticky rubber means your feet will never be slipping and sliding around slick concrete streets. Unlike hiking boots, approach shoes can actually pass for street shoes.

My picks? The La Sportiva Boulder X for a retro-y feel and ultimate comfort or the Evolv Cruzers for Toms-like shoes with climbing rubber.

Outlier Daily Riding Pants

From the climbing gym to the office to a post-work hike, who’s got time to lug around multiple pairs of pants? The Outlier Daily Riding Pants look classy but can throw down with dirt and chalk.

Unfortunately Outlier has discontinued these until they can focus more attention on their women’s offerings (boo), but these new pants by DUER performance denim look like a formidable opponent. Otherwise, Prana’s got you covered.

Mountain Hardwear Scrambler 30

Time and time again, the Scrambler 30 is the I reach for first. Comfortable enough for bike commutes, long hikes, short approaches, multi pitch climbs, this waterproof bag will keep all your gear safe.

Buy for $130 through REI, Campsaver or Mountain Gear.

Merino wool socks

You can never have enough socks. Cheat expensive and time consuming laundry days by rocking merino wool socks. I love Darn Tough and Farm to Feet for the solid construction and lifetime guarantee.
