If you’re craving solitude amongst big trees, Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias is your best bet. The least visited of the three groves, this grove of sequoias is my favorite in Yosemite National Park.
This three mile hike takes you along a wide, relatively flat fire road. You’ll lose elevation as you head to Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias. Fear not, it is a gradual change.
Soon you’ll start catching sights of the trees off the trail. Then suddenly, you’re greeted by trees right next to you.
Unlike Merced Grove of Giant Sequoias or even Tuolumne Grove of Giant Sequoias, you can get up close and personal with these sequoias. And best of all? You probably won’t see another soul while you’re there, especially if the weather is less than perfect.
The sequoias are spread approximately a quarter mile out from this point. The trees end when the trail reaches a cabin and turns into an unmaintained trail.
